How can you manage
your funding?
There are two main care management options available: self-management and full-management. Different providers may have different terminology regarding these options; however the core elements are usually very similar. Understanding the differences between these can help you choose the approach that best suits your needs and lifestyle.
What is Self-Management?
In a self-managed model, you (or someone you trust) take responsibility for coordinating your own care. This includes:
Selecting and scheduling your own care workers and services
Managing your budget and keeping records
Directing how your support plan is delivered
Liaising with providers as needed
Self-management allows for more control and flexibility, and often lower fees, but requires time, confidence, and a willingness to be more hands-on.
What is Full-Management?
Full management means your aged care provider takes the lead in coordinating your care and services. They handle the day-to-day administration, such as:
Booking and managing support workers and services
Processing invoices and managing your budget
Ensuring compliance with aged care regulations
Monitoring your health and wellbeing through regular check-ins
This is ideal for people who prefer a hands-off approach or have complex care needs and want support navigating the aged care system.
Which option is right
for you?
Choosing between self- and full-management depends on your personal preferences, capacity, and support network. You can also change models over time if your needs evolve. Still unsure? Give us a call on 1800 024 000 and we can help you decide what’s best for your situation.
