Understanding the eight
Support at Home Classifications

The introduction of eight funding levels allows for a more precise alignment of support to individual needs, replacing the previous four-tier structure under the Home Care Package program.
If you already have a Home Care Package, you will stay on your existing package when Support at Home begins. Your existing package will be called a “Transitioned Home Care Package”. You will only move to one of the new 8 Support at Home levels if you have a reassessment after 1 November 2025, or if you are approved for aged care for the first time after 1 November 2025.
The eight funding classifications of Support at Home program, ranges from ~$11,000 to $78,000 per year. Under Support at Home, budgets are set quarterly, with Care Management automatically deducted. Clients will have access to the full value of their budget at the start of the quarter. The quarters are as follows:
Quarter 1
1 July - 30 September
Quarter 2
1 October - 31 December
Quarter 3
1 January - 31 March
Quarter 4
1 April - 30 June
The Eight Classifications Explained
How are Support at Home classifications determined?
Your first step is to contact My Aged Care, the national gateway to aged care services. Call 1800 200 422 or visit myagedcare.gov.au. They will ask a few simple questions about your health, mobility, and how you are managing day-to-day. Your assessor will consider physical health, mobility, cognitive function, living arrangements, and support networks. Read more about how you can access care at home here.
You can always request for reassessment if your circumstances change - for example, after recovery or illness progression.
